Therapeutic Group Homes

All girls participate in a behavioral/self-awareness groups, which are conducted by the group home counselor.   

The modality of the group is geared toward positive peer culture and behavioral modification. Each girl works on a behavioral check list which is designed for her specific needs youth are asked to reevaluate these weekly. Group home counselor will evaluate the behavior checklist weekly. The group home staff "team" also reviews these for weekly evaluation. We will also offer social skills development and communication groups. 

 The program will be designed to provide case management services. At the time of the admission of any resident, they will be assigned the staff member responsible for providing case management services. Case management services will address: 

1. Helping the resident and the parents or legal guardian to understand the effects on the resident of separation from the family and the effect of group living; 

2. Assisting the resident and the family to maintain their relationships and prepare for the resident's future care; 

3. Utilizing appropriate community resources to provide services and maintain contacts with such resources; 

4. Helping the resident strengthen her capacity to function productively in interpersonal relationships; 

5. Conferring with the child care staff to help them understand the resident's needs in order to promote adjustment to group living; and 

6. Working with the resident and with the family or any placing agency that may be involved in planning for the resident's future and in preparing the resident for the return home or to another family for independent living or for other residential care. 

B. The provision of case management services will be documented in each resident's record

Residents and families  will receive individual counseling with a licensed mental health provider, utilizing out-patient services or with our licensed clinician.

 Youth receive individualized services focused on  enhancing, or supporting life skills to effectively transition into adulthood.

 The girls who are accepted into the local public school system will receive their education through local schools and after school one-on-one tutors within the home . A trained special education staff member will advocate for our residents who have an Individual Education Programs (IEP). Our staff member will be present during school meetings to make sure the IEP’s are developed and implemented for meeting the academic, emotional, behavioral and social needs of each youth at our homes. Youth who are not accepted into our local zone school will attend an alternative school. Our zone schools are Providence Middle School and James River High School and Monacan River High School .

• District and In Home  Special education services
• GED preparation and testing through Bryant & Stratton College

Finding – and keeping – a job gives adolescents more confidence and self-reliance, teaches them to be financially responsible, and gives them skills that they will carry throughout their careers.  Youth will have the opportunity to explore different careers through vocational paths.  Our group homes encourage employment, supports the development of job skills, and supervises money management. Resident’s can work 10-15 hours per week, while going to school. During the summer they are able to maintain full time employment. The youth will be encouraged to save most of their earnings, toward moving out on their own.
